WINTER HOME RENOVATION IDEAS

Winter can be a great time to get some home renovations completed so that it's ready to be used in the warmer months. Renovation season quietens down in the winter, so finding the best Class A Contractor in Hampton Roads to complete your renovation is possible.

Here are some top renovations we have completed during the cooler months.

1. Sunroom Additions

This is a popular winter renovation because our clients are wanting to get their homes ready for entertaining in the warmer months. In Hampton Roads most of our sunrooms are all season sunroom additions, giving our clients the ability to enjoy sunrooms all year round. In the winter the sunroom provides you with the ability to enjoy the addition that keeps the cold air out, while allowing natural light in through the glass windows.

It‘s an exceptional space to entertain guests, spend quality time with loved ones, or simply sit back and unwind! Bring the outdoor furniture in and enjoy your sunroom all year round.

2. Updating Flooring

If your carpets got destroyed in the summer now is the time to update your floors and get ready for the holiday season. When clients replace their carpets in the winter the home feels cozier and fresh!

Replacing carpet with floorboards is also very popular in the winter months. A lot of homeowners spend more time inside and decide to not only replace the flooring, but change it completely.

This fall we replaced our Virginia Beach client's home with new hardwood floorboards!

3. The Laundry

So much time is spent in the laundry and in the winter the cleaning and organization goes into over drive. Updating your laundry with new cabinets, replacing hooks, adding storage and optimizing the space can turn the laundry into a place you WANT to spend time in.

4. Kitchen Cabinets, Countertops, Appliances and Backsplash

Updating and replacing your countertops and cabinets can make a large impact on the appearance of your kitchen. This is a great winter renovation project as it doesn't take a lot of trips in and out of the house.

Backsplash is very popular and this winter we will be seeing a lot of backsplash additions in our clients' kitchens. Backsplash adds value, style, character and is an affordable kitchen addition.

Another thing to consider is how old are your appliances? The cooking season during Thanksgiving and Christmas might make you rethink the type and size of stove top, refrigerator and oven that you have.

5. The Attic and Crawl Space

Protecting you from the cold is one of your house's primary functions. One way of ensuring that your interior spaces stay as warm as possible, even in the coldest weather, is to insulate your attic or crawl space. This easy project can have a big impact on indoor comfort. While you are getting the attic insulated, consider finishing your attic so that you get more space without having to add an addition to your home.

6. Lighting

Changing your light bulbs and adding the dimmer option is an easy way to keep your house updated. Major lighting renovations that we tend to work on in the winter is updating light fixtures to recessed lighting and adding character to your home through decorative lighting.

Decorative lighting and recessed lighting are growing in popularity. Client's are adding decorative lighting to their kitchen islands. Attics are being completed with recessed lighting and a decorative fan. Many homes are switching out their flush lights for recessed lighting, so as to create a modern look in their home.
